Additional partners for supporting organizational capacity are being sought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Supporting organizational capacity allows HCA to continue to advance it&#8217;s mission of eradicating the world of herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 with professional resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>We&#8217;re extremely grateful to one of the world&#8217;s largest pharmaceutical companies for believing in the value of Herpes Cure Advocacy and increasing our capacity to do our work. Herpes is a critical and underappreciated disease globally. We need resources to address it and these funds will make a significant impact for HCA to continue to advance our mission. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; Dr. Jeffrey Klausner, HCA Board President<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With these funds, HCA can continue to advocate for change, engage patients, researchers and healthcare professionals, and will continue to change the field for HSV with professional strategies and resources. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since it&#8217;s founding in 2022, Herpes Cure Advocacy has made significant advances to increase private and public investment in clinical research for Herpes Simplex. Advocacy wins include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Federal Government Action requiring the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to develop a National Strategy for herpes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>$250,000 in funding to HHS for strategy development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In November 2022, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) convened a 2-day workshop on herpes cure, vaccine, and treatment research<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In 2023, the NIH released a 5-year HSV research strategy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In December 2023, based upon clinical and laboratory data provided by HCA, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a safety communication about the poor performance of herpes simplex virus antibody tests&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In February 2024, the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Health released a draft addendum to the National STI Strategy addressing herpes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finally, HCA prompted the CDC to undertake efforts to evaluate the burden of neonatal herpes and consider making it a nationally notifiable condition<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0\">Additional partners are needed for the Capacity Building program at HCA.
