class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have, since organizing as the country&#8217;s only patient advocacy organization for HSV, have done the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statnews.com\/2023\/04\/21\/herpes-patient-advocates-demand-action\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lobbied US Congress<\/a>&nbsp;to direct The Dept. of Health and Human Services (HHS) to develop a national strategy for herpes with&nbsp;$250,000 in funding for an FTE and HSV strategy development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In 2022, National Institutes of Health (NIH)&nbsp;<a and subsequently released a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.niaid.nih.gov\/news-events\/nih-releases-strategic-plan-research-herpes-simplex-virus-1-and-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">5-year HSV research strategy<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In 2023, based upon clinical and laboratory data provided by HCA, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/medical-devices\/letters-health-care-providers\/hsv-2-tests-genital-herpes-can-produce-false-reactive-results-letter-clinical-laboratory-staff-and\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">issued a safety communication<\/a>&nbsp;about the poor performance of herpes simplex virus antibody tests<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In February 2024, OASH&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/hsv-addendum-sti-national-strategic-plan-public-comments.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">released a draft addendum<\/a>&nbsp;to the National STI Strategy addressing herpes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finally, HCA prompted the CDC to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/journals.lww.com\/greenjournal\/abstract\/2024\/05001\/estimated_incidence,_mortality,_and_costs_of.164.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">undertake efforts<\/a>&nbsp;to evaluate the burden of neonatal herpes and consider making it a nationally notifiable condition<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div
