{"id":5247,"date":"2024-12-17T21:43:49","date_gmt":"2024-12-18T02:43:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/herpescureadvocacy.com\/?p=5247"},"modified":"2026-03-24T22:34:02","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T02:34:02","slug":"latest-advocacy-wins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/herpescureadvocacy.com\/2024\/12\/17\/latest-advocacy-wins\/","title":{"rendered":"Latest Advocacy Wins for HCA!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the first time since its founding in 1946, the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC) is now adding herpes prevention and control activities including clinical guideline development, surveillance and epidemiology to it routine disease control and prevention activities. &nbsp;Additionally, the CDC will be coming out with new recommendations for herpes testing, diagnosis and treatment in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This past year, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has solicited feedback regarding the HSV Addendum they planned to add to STI National Strategic Plan. Thanks to not only our efforts but the efforts of many advocates, the Strategic Plan now includes herpes! This is a big win!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-3e41869c wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-text-align-center wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/about\/news\/2024\/11\/07\/hhs-releases-sexually-transmitted-infections-stis-progress-report-herpes-simplex-virus-addendum.html\">Read the Addendum Here<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/std\/treatment-guidelines\/default.htm\">CDC STI Treatment Guidelines<\/a> haven&#8217;t been updated since 2021. Revisions are currently underway &#8211; new announcement about <strong>patient listening sessions to come<\/strong>! Keep this on your radar, as all of our input will be crucial for the next iteration of these guidelines!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This progress marks a monumental step forward in addressing herpes as a critical public health issue. For decades, the lack of focus and resources dedicated to herpes prevention and treatment has left many without adequate support. Now, with herpes officially included in the STI National Strategic Plan and updated clinical guidelines on the horizon, we have a unique opportunity to drive meaningful change. But the work doesn&#8217;t stop here\u2014this is just the beginning. We must continue to raise awareness, advocate for comprehensive care, and ensure that patient voices remain at the center of these efforts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center
